Dream Keepers' Fair St. Louis Dream Keepers Compton Ave., between Olive Blvd. and Laclede Station Rd., 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

In an effort to combat racism and bring students from across St. Louis together, several students and young people from across the city have created the St. Louis Dream Keepers, an organization meant to engender racial harmony locally.

The group's kickoff event is the Dream Keepers' Fair, which will begin with a moment of silence to commemorate the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event will continue with live music, an art show, poetry readings and a focus on social service.

Student Union President Brittany Perez, who is involved with Dream Keepers, said that the fair is an opportunity for students to display a commitment to tolerance.

"It's a call for the youth to come together and show that they stand for racial harmony," she said.

Perez added that students should engage themselves more in their local community.

"Each of us lives in St. Louis," she said. "How do we make it a better place to live? How do we bring our students together?"

The event is also sponsored by the St. Louis Cardinals.
