Washington University students woke before 5:30 a.m. to arrive on scene of The Early Show, as the CBS morning show broadcasted from Holmes Lounge to cover the vice presidential debates.

Though students like freshman Marissa Barnathan were excited to support their candidate, others expressed disappointment and frustration with The Early Show’s coverage of the debates.

“I’m excited to come out here for the debate to show my Wash. U. spirit,” junior Josh Morris said, holding a life-size cutout of Abraham Lincoln holding a “Vote for Obama” sign.  “We hope the camera gets a view of Abe, but we’ll see.”

Scott Lichtor, however, said the show was “a little more boring than previously expected”.

The show, according to observers, spent most of its time airing segments that were filmed off-camps, wit h the exception of spots from former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who had a brief run for the Republican nomination last year, political expert Laura Schwartz and several other pundits.

Many students left before the broadcasting of the program ended, some of them citing the limited number of positions in which they could appear on television.

“I’m sorry I’m not near the front because I feel like a lot of the conservatives are near the back,” College Republican Anna Luff, a sophomore, said.
